Stud Objectives

Our principal objective is to create awareness and interest in Perendale ‘dual purpose’ sheep as a practical alternative to farmers who are looking to have ‘dual income’ from the flock they might wish to run alongside other ‘on farm’ activities.

To do this we are committed to producing the best genetically based Perendale flock we can with the emphasis on retaining all of the attributes that Perendales have become well known for.

“Summit Park” Perendales are bred for Australian conditions where the seasons are predominately dry and feed can be poor and stemmy.

Both our Stud and Commercial flocks are ‘objectively selected’ as well as the Stud ewes being AI’d with semen from New Zealand to keep up the genetic improvements in both body structure, lamb type and wool.

Perendale sheep are well known for their worm resistance and NZ genetics will continue to improve our current flock which at present is drenched only once at eight months followed by two mineral drenches per year for the life of the sheep.

Our aim with the wool we produce is to secure direct access to end markets looking for light weight bulky yarns and to do this we are selecting with rams and ewes the hogget type wool* to match that market so opening it up for other Perendale breeders as well.

Finally we are committed to offering a true ‘easy care’ sheep as envisaged by the late Professor Sir Geoffrey Peren in every sense.
